Urban Seattle

Filed under: Uncategorized — tammykoukoulis @ 1:40 am

I ventured out on my own to explore Downtown Seattle in an attempt capture urban youth on pixels and had an exciting time doing it. The kids I met around Pike St. were very self expressive and I was very delighted to have met each and every one of them. I compiled some of the pic’s I took and made a short video to a cool song by NeedtoBreath – “Washed by the Water”. (very soulful song)
The video quality of YouTube is very compressed, so the pictures are not that great. I added some still shots also. Hope you like!

Mt. Rainier 2008 – Climb

Filed under: Uncategorized — tammykoukoulis @ 10:16 pm

When asked if my attempt to summit Mt. Rainier was a success, the answer is a definite yes! The Rainier experience was not just a competition between the mountain and me. The lessons I learned on that mountain are far more valuable than summiting. I was very arrogant to think we would just skip up the mountain and place our flag firmly into the snow at the summit and smile big for the camera.

I thought I had done everything I needed to do to prepare both physically and mentally, but I was wrong. I have to admit, the mountain kicked my butt.

Mt. Rainier does not seem to be going anywhere any time soon, so I will try again next year. I am fully aware of the dedication it will take to become physically and mentally prepared for the next attempt. I also realize that the success of reaching the summit is mostly dependant on favorable weather conditions. Our team was turned back at 11,300 ft. due to blizzard conditions and avalanche warnings. I was the only female on our team of 9 climbers. Every guy on my team was in great shape and I have no doubt that each and every one of them would have reached the summit in better conditions. I was not strong enough and I struggled.

I met so many awesome people along the way. I want thank my family for encouraging me every step of the way (especially Aunt Diane for being the best Nana ever) Thanks to my parents for sending me off with your love, prayers and that awesome church service I attended in Alabama the week before my climb…(wish we had a church like that around here). I also want to thank Uncle Bobby, my adopted uncle and climb partner. It was his constant encouragement that helped me get as far as I did. Thanks to Uncle David for holding down base camp. (Base camp was an awesome cabin about 20 miles from Ashford in a small town called Packwood owned by Randy and Janelle. Randy and I share a love of photography and got in some great shoot time. I loved sharing my knowledge and trying out Randy’s new camera…sweet).

Most of all I give thanks to our heavenly father. My life rests in his hands and I am never let down. I welcome the struggles because they make me strong. I love God, my children, my family, my friends……….I love my life!

Check out this video of my experience with RMI on Mt. Rainier (turn your volume way up!)
