Charles Barkley Swings For The First Tee: A Celebrity Event Honoring Publix Founder George W. Jenkins
Although I don’t play golf, It’s been a big part of my life for the last 12 years. During these years, I’ve learned some of the key components needed to acquire a love for this game. To name a few; perseverance, dedication and patience. I’m not saying that the game of golf itself builds character, but I believe it gives ones innate character a “work-out”.
The First Tee provides young people of all backgrounds an opportunity to develop life-enhancing values such as confidence, perseverance and judgment through golf and character education. They aim to educate boys and girls through golf by teaching values that are inherent to the game. They also provide affordable access to golf instruction and play while building relationships with kids.
My 7 year old has been playing with his father since he was three years old. I can honestly say that his golf manners are far better than his table manners.
It’s fun watching him play and seeing him work on his swing and listening to him discuss his game with his dad. I’m even thinking about taking golf lessons from him.:)
This past Friday, former NBA Superstar and current TV personality Charles Barkley joined local professional golfers Andy Bean and Brad Bryant along with other celebrity friends in this third annual event benefiting the YMCA Par 3, Home The First Tee of Lakeland. The YMCA Par 3, is home to The First Tee of Lakeland and is a division of the YMCA of West Central Florida, a non-profit charitable organization. The participation from local business was fantastic. Commissioner Sam Johnson was in attendance along with many others dedicated to improving the future of our community such as Terrance Barber, Educator and former wide receiver for the Florida Gator’s and Drew Gillan, Public Relations Manager, Brighthouse Networks.
Here are a few pic’s taken during the event. My son was thrilled to meet Mr. Barkley, get a signed basketball, and his picture taken with the basketball star.

POP ART FAMILY PORTRAITS
Thanks to one of my artistic clients, I spent yesterday learning how to add an “Andy Warhol” look to a family photo set I did a few weeks ago. David, this was so much fun. It gave me a great excuse to get back to one of my great passions, Art. Andy Warhol discovered the art of “Silk Screening” in the early 60′s. My clients happen to be big fans of his work, so I read Andy’s Bio and then wend to work with the photoshop “cut out” filter and this is what I came up with.
